At the start of the scene you have just found out that the police officer as caught this man and has him under arrest. The scene starts with a police officer on the phone to his boss, he looks very confused, to show that he was confused the tone of his voice was different to normal, he slows down what he is saying when he speaks as if he does not know what the convict has done exactly, the film uses a good use of change in dialogue. The man under arrest looks like a bad man, the director would have chosen this person for the part because he is really tall and big and he is not good looking he looks nasty and he is of a different race and he is made to look mysterious. The officer is shown in a medium shot with the man out of focus behind him.
The officer frowns to show he hasn’t a clue of what something is. When he is telling his boss what the convict had on him the officer roles his eyes as a sign of relief, hoping his boss might know what it is, but then again he could be rolling his eyes to show that he hopes his boss doesn’t think he’s stupid for not know what it is, the camera goes closer to the officer and slowly zooms in. This adds on the pressure to the officer as if the audience were watching him/inspecting him. The lighting has all been done to look as natural as possible and the officer has been shown in the light to look like the good guy and the man under arrest is in the dark to show he is bad.
The officer also scrunches up his lips a bit to show he is thinking and lowers his eyebrows. He is sitting in his chair telling his boss about the man he just caught with a strange oxygen tank/hose thing he had and that it’s all okay and they have him under control. It then does a focus pull so that you can properly see the man in the background. In the background the convict is slyly getting his hands free so he can strangle the officer with his handcuffs after he finishes on the phone.
As soon as he is finished on the phone the convict strangles the officer viciously until the officer is left dead covered in blood. Whilst the convict strangles the officer on the floor with the officer on top of him you can see the egression in the convicts face and how angry he really is, the man comes across to the audience straight away as a psycho killer who enjoys killing. This is shown from above like a birds eye view and slowly zooms in on to the mans face.
After killing the officer the convict has a sick grin on his face as if he were happy that he just killed a man. This is sick cause no sane person would enjoy killing, its like he’s happy he ended the officer life. This is shown from a close-up shot on the mans face, then is shown again from a medium shot to show that he is lying there with the dead officer in a pool of blood. The clothes that they wear in it have been made to look like everyday clothes and the officer is wearing a typical police officer uniform. The props used have been done so that it all looks natural and they only use things they would actually be using in real life.
