preliminary task EVALUATION

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I learnt how to use a video camera and enhancing my shots to make them look better and be of better quality. I also learnt how to use iMovie on an Apple Mac to edit my footage I took and make it more interesting by adding effects and transitions and titles. I also learnt how to cut clips together and make one flowing film. Using iMovie was a new experience, which I enjoyed.

preliminary task EVALUATION

How did you attract/address your audience?

I used an opening title to tell the audience what the film is called.I also used a interesting opening scence so the audience wanted to keep watching the film.I also chose a backing track to the film which is well known so the people watching the film enjoyed it more.

preliminary task EVALUATION

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my film would be people(most likely boys/men)who enjoy watching action films and comedy films for entertainment purposes. The target audience is people aged 15 and older because my film is about drug dealing so young children will not want to watch it because it could scare and upset them.

preliminary task EVALUATION

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My film would be used as a trailer for the actual film because there is a lot more to the story. After the trailer comes out on TV people will see it and want to go watch it or buy the film. The film could be put in cinemas and on DVD or Video. This would be good because people who don’t have DVD or Video players can go watch the film at the cinema.

preliminary task EVALUATION

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My film represents gangsters and drug dealers; this was done by using the stereotype of what a gangster, so the audience could understand that the actors are playing drug dealers/gangsters. Also the film shows you what can happen if you deal drugs etc because its bad, and it may lead to bad things happening (like with Dwayne in my film being killed by the police) so it teaches the audience a lesson. It represents more lower class people because the actors are playing drug dealers who have to get money by selling drugs and if they were higher class then they would not have to sell drugs for a living.

preliminary task EVALUATION

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Film has an opening title, which welcomes the audience into the film telling them the name, which could give away what the film is about. After the title fades away the film begins. Like with most films it follows the three act structure at the start you meet the characters, then the characters speak to each other, then the characters shake hands because they are both happy with what has been done, then they hear the police so have to run away. One of the characters dies and the film is finished. At the start there is equilibrium when they are having a conversation then there is disequilibrium when they hear the police. It then ends with a sad ending because one of the characters dies. The film is different to most films because it mixes to genres together (comedy/action). The film ends with fading out music and a message saying that we will remember the character that died. This is a good ending because it is easy for the audience to tell that the film has ended.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE preliminary task FILM

ACTORS: Scott livingstone as Dwanye
Craig McCall as Zac

MUSIC: Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright

VOICE OVERS: by Me (Michael McCallum)

preliminary task THE END

To finish the short film a small message comes up on the screen to show that Dwanye will always be remebered. This makes the audeince know that Dwanye dies in the end.

preliminary task THE ENDING

My actors then run away, after hearing the police (the pigs). This is done with five different shots from different angles to show what is happening from different points of view.It is also done in slow motion to make it worrying for the audience and to increase suspense. After the actors have left the room it zooms in on the door knob.

preliminary task CLOSE-UP

After the conversation finishes the two actors shake hands.I did two shots to show this, the first shot was a close-up and the second was an extreme close-up.This shows the audeince that they are shaking hands.

preliminary task SHOT REVERSE/SHOT

When my actor sits down next to my other actor and starts speaking in a conversation shot reverse shot is used from a medium close-up this shows the actors facial expressions aswell as the conversation.

preliminary task TRANSITION

Beetween clips I use transitions like dissolve to make one clip go into another clip with out it looking like the film jumped.

preliminary task 180 DEGREE RULE,CROSSING ROOM AND SITTING DOWN

Without breaking the 180 degree rule my actor crosses the room and sits down, before starting his conversation.

preliminary task MATCH ON ACTION

This is my actor walking through the door using match on action. From him starting to open the door and turning the handle to him actually walking through the door.

preliminary task TITLE

The title is like with most films,it come in at the start to show the audience what the film is all about and what they are just about to watch.I had the title fade away over the start of the next clip.

preliminary task FILM STORYBOARD

CHARACTERS I NEED FOR MY preliminary task FILM

In my film there will be two actors. One of the actors will play a man called Dwayne Lee,Dawyne is the big boss of a gangster group called Fallback. The actor playing Dawyne will have to be big and look really nasty and strong. The other person in my film is Zac Brown, he is one of the gang members who is having a talk with his boss.Zac will have to be played by a tall, strong and nasty looking boy. Both actors will have to fit the role of a gangster (A gangster is a criminal who is a member of a crime organization, such as a gang. The term gangster is most commonly used in reference to members of the criminal organizations associated with American prohibition and the American offshoot of the Italian Mafia, such as the Chicago Outfit or the Five Families, and individuals such as Al Capone and Bugsy Siegel).

MY preliminary task FILM PLOT

Dwayne has just finished some work killing off other gang members from other gangs. He is the boss of his own gang called The Fallback. The Fallback is in some debt but has just recived some drugs from over sea, so the can sell the drugs and pay off the debt.Dwayne has just arrived back from seeing the drugs that he had just recived and killing some guys. He goes into his gangs hangout and pretends he is going to kill is mate Zac but then tells Zac its all a joke and sits down.Zac and Dwayne start to disscuss the drugs and recent killings.

FILM GENRE

http://www.filmsite.org/genres.html on this website are various different types of genres for films.I am going to be doing the film genre action/comedy my film will be for people 15years old or older. The film will be this way because it will have a use of strong langauge in it and violence.I chose action as a genre because I find action films the most entertaining to watch.I then decided to make it an action comedy because I thought the genre comedy would be easy to do because anyone can make jokes. Also the film will be viewed by my media teacher Mr.Winn so I wanted to make something new and different.

HOW I WILL DO IT

I will make my Film using a video camera provided by my college because it is easy to understand how to use it because we were taught how to in lesson time. I will have to do auditions for people to be in the film and play the characters needed; the auditions will help me find the perfect person to play each role properly.

I will then edit the film footage which I have taken using the apple program iMovie and will add music and other needed things like titles to the film to make it of good quality. After I have finished making my film I will publish it on youtube.com and publish it on my blog.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

When designing the Film I had to think about:

  • What do people want from the film
  • What camera angles should be used
  • What genre is most interesting
  • Which effects should be used in the film
  • How will it be edited
  • What type of font shall be used for film titles
  • What is the target audience
  • Is there violence in the film
  • Is there strong language in the film
  • Is the film suitable for all ages
  • What is the film about
  • Is there a specific topic in the film
  • etc..

180 DEGREE RULE ETC

180 DEGREE RULE

The 180° rule is a basic film editing guideline that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle.

SHOT/REVERSE SHOT

Two or more shots edited together that alternate characters, typically in a conversation situation. In continuity editing, characters in one framing usually look left, in the other framing, right. Over-the-shoulder framings are common in shot/reverse-shot editing.

MATCH ON ACTION

Either an action commenced in shot A is completed in shot B, or an action in shot A is mirrored by an action in shot B.

TARGET AUDIENCE for preliminary task FILM

The target audeince
When making a Film for Mr.Winn and other people I have to think about the target audience:

  1. Gender-male/female
  2. Age-age group e.g. elderly, teenagers etc
  3. Interests-sci-fi, westerns, thriller, action etc
  4. Class-ABC1,C2DE, lower,higher etc

The Film that we are intending to make is for Mr.Winn, so it would most likely be aimed towards the men aged fifteen or eighteen and older who just watch films for entertainment. Another audience people would have to look at is other people who would like to watch the film for example Mr.Winn’s students and other young men. I would like my audience to be a passive audience and not look to deep into the film but just watch the film for fun and pleasure. In this project I am going to be making a film. The film will have a target audience of people over fifteen years old, the film will be aimed mostly towards men and young boys who are interested in action films. It will be made for people over fifteen years old because of violence and strong language.

preliminary task FILM

I intend to film and edit a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
